About
Hey, I'm Max! Although more people might know me as RedcXca.
I'm currently a software engineering student at the University of Waterloo. When I'm not buried in school or work, I'm usually drawing, playing random games with my roommates, or watching YouTube.
Nier is my favourite video game franchise, which also inspired the theme of this website! In a time of machines and automation, games like Nier keep me grounded in the values of human creativity and expression, and of course, bunny girls. I should go draw more bunny girls instead of typing on this website. But anyways, nice to meet you, kind stranger on the internet!
Experiences
I write software. I have strong interests in frontend engineering with my art background, but I'm usually doing fullstack roles to maximize shareholder value. I currently work for Ivo, a startup in San Francisco powering legal technologies.
I had a pivot in my career plans around senior year of high school when I realized that while teaching kids was very fun, it didn't make me enough to have my own in this economy. I loved helping students build TNT machine guns in Minecraft, then trolling them by blowing them up early with commands. Good times.

Illustrations
Art is a late blooming passion for me. I started drawing sometime around 2020 when I got my first iPad to join my art friends doing Inktober. I think I would've probably stopped doing art if I didn't throw myself into an art contest for osu! in 2021 and get competitive about it because I only got 50th place. Eventually in 2023, I got my first place finish and Redside reached out about using my illustration for his song, which led to me joining the osu! World Cup design team later in the year. I drew for about 30 musicians in total during that time period before gradually shifting my focus to web design in 2026.
osu!
I got introduced to osu! by my high school friend Rijrya playing it during science class. But because our desks were too small to fling a mouse around in class, I opted into playing the non-standard modes which only required a keyboard. Out of these modes I liked playing catch the most and quickly grinded to top 100 during COVID. I am retired from tournament play now, but my biggest achievements were winning the 4th iteration of the Canada Catch Cup and getting fourth in the 2024 osu!catch World Cup.
